Chattanooga police and other first responders train in and around the Aquarium's River Journey building 7 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. It is a planned drill.

If you see police around the Tennessee Aquarium on Wednesday morning, it is a planned drill.

The Aquarium will hold a training exercise with the Chattanooga Police Department and other first responders on Wednesday, Oct. 21. It will run in and around the River Journey building from about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern time.

The Aquarium announced the drill in a community advisory posted across the top of its website.

What we know

  • When: about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21
  • Where: in and around River Journey, the Aquarium building with the glass peaks
  • Who: the Tennessee Aquarium, the Chattanooga Police Department and other first responders

The advisory does not say which other agencies are taking part or what kind of emergency the drill rehearses. It also does not mention any street closures. We will update this page if the Aquarium or the city adds detail.

What it means for you

  • Downtown on Wednesday morning: expect police and emergency vehicles near the Aquarium until about 11 a.m. They are training, not responding to a real call.
  • Planning a visit: the Aquarium’s website listed hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. Its notice does not say whether Wednesday’s opening is affected, so check the Aquarium’s visit page before you go.
  • Driving through: for this week’s paving and lane closures elsewhere in the city, see our road closures page.
